H by BCI is First Religion-Sensitive, Halal Nail Polish (2014) {New Beauty Product - Nails}
Even if you are not Muslim, you might pay attention to the new H by BCI range of Halal-certified nail polishes as a cultural artifact. It might also be an interesting beauty product to you if you're concerned about breathability for your nails while wearing a coat of lacquer on them...
And finally, if you're Vegan, it's also friendly to your ethos since it was not tested on animals nor contains animal substances.
But the original motivation for the creation of this new nail polish was to ensure that Muslim women could conduct their ablutions 5 times a day before prayer without having to remove their varnishes. This is because water has to be able to touch their skin and nails in order to be clean according to the Wudu ritual. H by BCI has the property of being water-permeable and is porous however without losing its structural integrity in the process.
This was launched just before Ramadan this year. While there are apparently other Halal branded labels for nail lacquers, this is reportedly the first one that has gotten an official religious approval by the Al Iman Islamic Society.
"For a product to be certified halal, it also can't contain alcohol, fragrances or animal ingredients and should carry a guarantee that it hasn't been tested on animals."
We had seen wellness-oriented nail varnishes before, but a religious-compliant one, that's a first! As you can see, it can still be interpreted as a wellness bonus for some.
