New Perfume Museum Opens in Saint-Petersburg, Russia {Fragrance News} {Scented Paths & Fragrant Addresses}

The Russian news agency Regnum has announced that a new perfume museum has opened its doors yesterday in the ancient capital of the tsars in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. It is located on the territory of the Severnoe Siyanie (Aurora Borealis) perfume manufactory plant. The collection comprises unique artifacts of the art of perfumery from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, cosmetics from the revolutionary and war periods, samples of fine Soviet perfumes, including legendary ones.....

The visitors have the opportunity to smell them and even to try them on. There is also an exhibition of photographs regarding the history of the Severnoe Siyanie factory since its foundation in 1860 under its first name The Chemical Laboratory of Saint-Petersburg. Its original staff of 13 in its early days has expanded to today's more than 500 employees since its merger with the Anglo-Dutch company Unilever in 1994. Its products include such famous perfumes as "Triple", "Forest Lily of the Valley"(Muguet des Bois in other words), and "Red Carnation".

The museum is open from 9 am to 5 pm (to 6 pm on Fridays) every day except weekends and admission is free.
