The Brothers Quay Introduce Wonderwood by Comme des Garçons (2010) {New Fragrance}
Comme des Garçons are preparing to launch a new fragrance from June 24th 2010 in London called Wonderwood which seems to have benefited from a particularly lavish attention on the part of the label, what with a dedicated website incorporating a countdown feature like the best of the very commercial brands but especially a fabulous 3:16 mn stop-motion animated short by the Quay Brothers, Timothy and Stephen. Its only defect is that it doesn't last an hour, and more.
"The piece, entitled WONDERWOOD, is about a man who loved trees more than words could say. An allegorical representation of non verbal passion, the film expresses through visual rapture the beautiful exorbitance of this new Comme des Garçons fragrance."....
Is it surprising to see this when you know the scent was baptized Wonderwood? I would argue that, no, it isn't.
Smelling a series of CDG perfumes consecutively is to come away with the realization that the house is crazy about woods. Since perfumer Mark Buxton created the original Comme des Garçons in 1994, it seems that the rest of the fragrances have been a series of variations around the addictive qualities of the fundamental woody and spicy accord. Now, CDG call Wonderwood "the ultimate wood fragrance,"
Wonderwood edp is said to present the characteristic of featuring the wood ideas in the heart of the fragrance rather than in the base as is more standard. The perfume was composed by Antoine Lie.
Notes are:
AROUND THE HEAD: Madagascan pepper, Bergamot, Somalian Incense, Nutmeg
IN THE HEART: Cristalon, Cashmeran, Gaïacwood, Cedarwood, Carvi Graines
AT THE END: Javanol, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Oud (Agarwood)
The Brothers Quay's movie was inspired in part by the scent itself as they asked to smell the fragrance before starting to shoot.
