Fashion Derived from Perfume: Carry a Night Fetiche Signed By Kilian {Fashion Notes}
Fragrance label By Kilian founded by Kilian Hennessy in 2007 is venturing into fashion waters with a novel line of minaudières inspired directly from the chic lacquered boxes housing the By Kilian perfumes. They are titled Night Fetiches, adding to the dark, signature atmosphere of the brand...
An original By Kilian perfume box
While the house has been attuned from the start to the beauty of the perfume ritual gesture as demonstrated by collections of decorative perfume accessories, it is the first time that they are more frankly turning to fashion.
It all happened serendipiouslty as we learn from an interview given to the Bon Marché Rive Gauche in Paris. A friend of Kilian Hennessy needed a quick solution before going out one evening and in a stroke of inspiration decided to throw all of her paraphernalia into one of the black, lustrous boxes which close with a key. The quick fix became a habit. The brand decided then to refine the concept and bring ameliorations to the design gradually. The founder explains that originally, the perfume boxes were actually conceived of in the spirit of minaudières for fragrances.
The line of By Kilian minaudières comprises 6 models. They are exclusively available at "L'Appartement de Mode" on the first floor of the Parisian department store.
The same interview reveals that for the first year, and 3-4 years after its launch, the perfume brand has become profitable.
This year, a fragrance by Judith Leiber, the grande dame of American minaudières is coming out housed in a flacon shaped like her trademark accessory: Judith Leiber Night.
A new fragrance called Incense Oud By Kilian is about to be unveiled this March 2011 (announcement to follow.)
