Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense (2012) {New Perfume}

This month, Jo Malone are releasing a new opus dedicated to oud in their Cologne-Intense collection called Velvet Rose & Oud. It is a limited-edition. It comes after Oud and Bergamot, but also Rose Water and Vanilla, an oud flying under the radar. As early as 2008, the brand had inserted oud in their Kohdo Wood collection. Perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin succeeds Christine Nagel in curating and creating the most recent releases by Jo Malone (see review of Plum Blossom)...

While the scent may be a transient composition, in the interview that its author gave, perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin reveals that working on this perfume was an opportunity for him to further develop his thoughts on contemporary perfume creation and its constraints (please check back for upcoming post).

Velvet Rose & Oud is said to feature a very dark Damask rose counterpoised against smoldering smoky oud. It has a spicy touch with clove and a gourmand one with praline.

As usual, Jo Malone suggest layering with other perfumes from the house to offer variations on the core effects,

"Mist it with Dark Amber & Ginger Lily to mingle spices and incense and introduce an air of calming sensuality or Oud & Bergamot to intensify the allure of precious woods."
