Everything. by Lernert & Sander Celebrates Olfactory Cacophony of 2012 {Fragrance News} {Scented Paths & Fragrant Addresses}
Dutch duo of artists Lernert and Sander have filled a giant glass vial with all of 1200 perfume launches that they were able to track down in 2012. They very simply yet quite out of the blue of conceptual thinking blended the juices from a multitude of fragrance vials into its logical consequence and container, a custom-made 1.6 L vial entitled Everything. You can smell the result from March 1st to the 9th, 2013 at concept store Colette in Paris...
One possible interpretation is that Everything. represents "everything and nothing" and the perception of the absence of olfactory meaning associated with a plethora of launches when too many commercial launches are taking place, according to many critics.
If you value pluralism, like we do, it is just fun and striking to see a palpable, random yet highly constrained "product" encompassing all others gaining meaning from the fact that it somehow faithfully reflects the year 2012 thanks to a shortcut.
Of course, since the result is a jumble of notes and ingredients without any consideration for the delicate architecture of a perfume, it is not a perfume anymore but a monument to perfumery and confuse memories.
Lernert and Sander will be present at the store on Saturday March 2nd, 2013 from 4 pm to 6 pm.
