The involvement of children was one of the remarkable aspects of today's walk for Republican unity (Marche républicaine) in Paris. They came on foot and in strollers. They were carried on their parents' shoulders. They were everywhere...

The reason is that the French thought this was both a historical and educational moment not to be missed out on. It almost felt like something akin to a religious blessing was being experienced, or hoped to be experienced.
It might be time to reinstate civic education at school.
