The author of the documentary is Xavier Lefèbvre.
The 52 mn film looks at the cultivation of sandalwood and the production of its essential oil in New-Caledonia in the context of the avered worldwide scarcity of the material. In this country, a 19th century varietal was ressuscitated in a sustainable manner thanks to the efforts of Kanak agronomist Jean Waikédré.
Chanel sources it from the region and used it in Jersey. In-house perfumer Christopher Sheldrake is featured in the documentary.
Two other titles in the same DVD collection are set to be released, one on fine lavender from Provence, and another one on ylang from Comoros.
