After announcing that Christina Aguilera was preparing to launch her signature fragrance, I realized that she had already participated in a fragrance creation previously. Her perfume, Xpose, was launched in 2004 and exclusively distributed in the European market. Interestingly enough, this fact was not mentioned in the recent press releases.
Have you tried it?
Singer Christina Aguilera signed a fragrance deal with Procter and Gamble. In 5 years, she is one of several celebrities to follow in J-Lo's footsteps (Please check our Celebrity Fragrance category for more info). She said " I love trying new things in my music and in fashion." [...] "To have a perfume of my own is the beginning of an exciting adventure." The new fragrance will be released later this year. Singer and fashion brand owner Gwen Stefani is the latest celebrity to enter the Coty stable in its prestige division - like Jennifer Lopez and Sarah Jessica Parker - to collaborate on the creation of her signature scent. The upcoming perfume will reflect Gwen Stefani's personality but also her fashion brand L.A.M.B.'s (an acronym for Love Angel Music Baby) image and is slated to debut in fall of 2007. See why she wants to create that fragrance...

Derek Jeter from the New York Yankees is launching his first fragrance called Driven by Avon. The new perfume includes notes of grapefruit, oakmoss, and spice. It will be on sale at the end of November 2006. Jeter says that "When I was approached and decided to do it, I decided to be involved in everything -- the scent, the packaging, the logo, the bottle. I knew what I wanted. I didn't want it to overtake a room. I wanted it to be clean and sophisticated". He also thinks that "A good fragrance can give you confidence". Kylie Minogue's first fragrance will debut next month. It is called Darling, a term the Australian actress says she personally likes to use, is popular in her family, and on top of these, has a show-bizz connotation to it. The perfume was created by Thierry Wasser of Firmenich and is described as a chypre-floriental scent...

There is an article by Rob Walker in the New York Times of October 22 2006 on the new consumerist trends in the perfume markets, including, of course, the celebrity perfume trend. The Smell Test Simon Cowell thinks it's a good trend and says he is considering giving it a go "There's this cologne I really like and it's not very well known, so I'm thinking of partnering up with them and giving it my name," he said. And what will Cowell's scent reek of? "It's very citrus-y, it smells of limes," the 47-year-old said of the fruity fragrance" in Inside Entertainement...

The first perfume by best-selling author, Danielle by Danielle Steel has now hit the perfume counters. It is described as a lush floral oriental and is meant to convey qualities embodied by the prolific writer and mother of nine children, that is, femininity and strength.
The juice, by Loc Dong of International Flavors and Fragrances, has top notes of lush green notes and Mediterranean mandarin; a heart of butterfly jasmine, sunset orchid and hydroponic rose, and a drydown of blue vetiver, white amber and cashmere musks.
The collection includes eaux de parfum in two sizes, 1.7 oz. for $49.50 and 3.3 oz. for $65, as well as a 0.5-oz. parfum, $125, and a 6.8-oz. body lotion for $35.
The eau de parfum bottles are faceted heavy glass rectangles, intended to be reminiscent of pieces in Steel’s large fine crystal collection. The juice inside is tinted a pale yellow. The perfume bottle is a weighty glass rectangle with a glass dabber and faceted top. Glass for both was fabricated by Pochet...

The new perfume by teen star Hilary Duff, With Love, continues the very popular, some would say, unimaginative, trend of fruity floral fragrances given a creamy, buttersccotch-y twist. The genre was made popular by Britney Spears and is primarily destined to please a younger set of women (15-24). In this case, fine wood notes make it a more sophisticated type of fragrance susceptible to appeal to a more mature audience looking for a sensual playful, yet elegant perfume.
The perfume was created by Stephen Nilsen and Rodriguez Flores-Roux of Quest. It is a luscious gourmand fragrance with delicious fruity notes and seductive woods: sandalwood, cedar, and rarer "textured Cocobolo woods" undertones. I absolutely love the woods in this perfume; they are very finely textured. Notes are, among others, Mangosteen fruit, spices, Mangosteen blossom, Cocobolo wood, amber milk, and amber musk. I also detect a boozy note which turns out to be Champagne according to one source. There is also a rich sandalwood, cedar, and coconut milk. The Mangosteen smells more like candied pineaple than Mangosteen only approximating the delicate and subtle frutiness of the Mangosteens of my childhood...

The latest fragrance by Jennifer Lopez, Live Luxe, was created by Claudette Belnavis of Takasago. The fragrance is dedicated to J-Lo's love of dancing. Notes are among others, pear, peach, amethyst freesia, muguet petals, diamond musk, and soft amber. Live Luxe starts with a sharp outburst of slightly tart fruits. It smells of mandarine, perhaps green apple, and overall of the concentrated and juicy smell of a Del Monte fruit salad. Underneath the frutiness, a creamy undertone already indicates the direction in which the perfume will evolve later. As the perfume unfolds a slightly clean ozonic smell envelops the fruits balancing out the creaminess to prevent it from becoming too cloying. (Now that I have read that there is an electric citrus note, that might be it; there is something in the air). Little by little, the fruit medley becomes less indistinct and a juicy pear appears on a peachy background...

"It was Matt Dillon who once observed that "When I go really far back in time, to the days when everyone was dying of cholera and syphilis and bubonic plague, I want nothing to do with those periods. I mean, nobody showered. That's why perfume became such a popular item." Dillon has yet to offer his explanation for the popularity of celebrity perfume, but the reasons are probably similar: such fragrances are an attempt to elevate ourselves above the great unwashed..."

Teen Star Hilary Duff is launching her first fragrance called With Love. It targets women aged from 15 to 24 although Duff thinks it will appeal to a broader audience due to the sophistication of the scent. The star closely monitored the creation of the fragrance saying it took 115 different versions to perfect it. The juice was created by Quest perfumers Stephen Nilsen and Rodrigo Flores-Roux. "In terms of ingredients, effervescent mangosteen and Champagne represent the “fun and bubbly” side of Duff’s personality, while her “complex, sensual side” is highlighted by an accord of textured cocobolo woods." Updated: there is now a website showcasing With Love, please see my latest post about Duff's perfume.
